Sweet & Sassy Turkey Sammie

Not too many sandwiches rock my world. The Sweet & Sassy Turkey Sammie is one that does.  Without the "sweet and sassy" ingredients it would just be an ordinary turkey and cheese sandwich.
“There is an art to the business of making sandwiches which it is given to few ever to find the time to explore in depth. It is a simple task, but the opportunities for satisfaction are many and profound.”
Douglas Adams, The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide
The sweetness comes from sliced Gala apples. The sassy component is pesto.  Put them together with a creamy Havarti cheese and you've got a symphony of flavor tickling your taste buds.

Spread pesto on both slices of bread.  Layer sliced apples, cheese and turkey on one side.  Top with the other side. Take a bite and smile. (with your mouth closed, of course)

When I make this sandwich for friends, they are always delighted with the mingling of flavors and the sweet crunch of the apples.  Take a break from the ordinary and look at sandwich making as a form of art.  Be creative... What are some of your "secret" ingredients for making sandwiches special?
