A Touch of Fall

Oh, the weather outside is...still hot and humid...
It's beginning to look a lot like ...Autumn in my house...
I'm dreaming of a...cool, colorful Fall...
Okay, so my songs and seasons are a little off.  But I am starting to see a touch of fall in my home and it makes me so happy I could sing. After my mom's visit last week, I now have a couple of Autumn arrangements to nestle into my decor. You saw my fall mantle a couple of weeks ago, and now my entryway is more or less complete. It's just missing some little real pumpkins. Unfortunately, in these parts, we do not have real pumpkins in the stores yet.  I'm waiting for them and the cooler weather to get my front porch fall-i-fied too. (is that a word?)

So, today I'll share the entryway with you.
This Broyhill Candlewood sideboard has been with us since we were first married. My in-laws home burned in our first month of marriage and most of their belongings were destroyed.  No one was hurt, but they did lose a lot of stuff... most of it replaceable. However, miraculously, some of the furniture survived with just some smoke damage that was easily remedied.  This sideboard and it's counterpart, a buffet, were passed on to us newlyweds.  It's been kept in its original color, this blonde pine.  I have thought many times of painting it a bold color, but I tend to chicken out. With all the tutorials out there for using chalk paint, I may actually do something with it this year. Will someone hold my hand, pretty please?

This is one of the arrangements my mom put together. It's just a free-form basket of leaves and sunflowers. Nothing fussy...just how I like it. The candlesticks on either side were picked up at a garage sale and were brass in their original state.  I then found the mirror at GW, and I gave it and the candlesticks a nice coat of black paint. I love when I can get old, discarded things for cheap and give them new life.
The gorgeous wooden leaf wreath was given to us by my cousin in St. Louis.  Her husband's brother hand made this beauty.  He is quite the woodworker. I love all the different woods and stains he used to craft this unique piece.  I have used it as a centerpiece before with a candle in the center and I have hung it on a wall. This year, I thought it needed a more prominent place. I picked the entryway mirror and I couldn't be more pleased. Well, that's the rundown on my entryway.  As I said, when the real pumpkins are available, a few might be finding their way to this sideboard. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the rustic beauty of this arrangement.

This dining table isn't part of the entryway, but it is just off from it.  I played around with the fabric pumpkins I made this week, adding in a garland and votive holders from Dollar Tree to create this casual centerpiece for the dining room. Those who know me, know that I am not about the frills.  For the most part, I like things to be practical, functional and pretty.  This fit the bill perfectly.  The runner was a hand-me-down, the pumpkins are made of toilet paper and the other elements cost me $3.00. According to my parameters, I'd say I nailed it with this arrangement. Thanks for stopping by. I hope I've inspired you to start your fall decorating, if you haven't already begun.

I can't believe those cute little votives came from The Dollar Tree! How come I never find anything cute like that when I go there?

  14. Hi- I am visiting from Make it Pretty Monday-
I have to say I love that sideboard just the way it is! I think the blonde pine is beautiful- and knowing a little history about some of the manufacturers I am sure this piece was made in America before all these companies started outsourcing!
Your wreath is so unique- and what a keeper! Love the different colors in it and knowing the person who made it must make it all the more special to you! I love the basket your mom fashioned for you! You made those pumpkins? Wow- that's great!

Your sideboard table is very special...we lost our home to fire when we were growing up,it's a sad thing when good hard working folks loose everything...insurance was not even thought of back then.

Love the black painted mirror and candlesticks...just something about black...I seem to be drawn to it myself.
