Fall at My Front Door

Hurray! Fall is here!!
As of this week, Fall is officially here!  We have had notably cooler weather (yay!) and the days have been getting shorter.
Every store has a plethora of pumpkins on display and my, oh my, what gorgeous varieties are available! It's time to show you fall at my front door.
I was so excited to finally get some pumpkins for my front porch this week, although I went with the standard orange.  I set to the task of putting some flowers in my large planter on my front porch.  Y'all know the rules for making gorgeous planters, right? There are 3 things you need: a thriller, a spiller and a filler.
I'm not sure mine exactly fit those categories, but I certainly had them in mind when I was picking out my flowers for the planter.

My Thriller: An orange mum with bright blooms
My Spiller: A purple potato vine
My Filler: Yellow Marigolds (oops, looks like my filler is taller than my thriller)
A couple of years ago, my mother and I put together this wreath.  It has been added to and subtracted from each year.  This year I put it up with the flowers off to one side.
On either side of the door, I have some small planters with maroon mums and a few pumpkins. So, there you have it. If you were to come by for a visit, this is what you would welcome you.  Now, I must address the sad shape of my front door.  I'm not going for a rustic look here, people. The south sun has taken a toll on my front door.  The problem is, I don't know what to do about it...stain it the original color (somewhere near the top left of the door), stain it a darker color, or paint it a rich tone to bring out one of the colors in the brick.  I need help!!! What would you do?

I'm linking up at some of these great parties and

  1. I love it Nici! Makes me crave a mug of cider!

  2. Oh this is fall perfection at its finest! A truly cozy vignette.

While we don't have much fall here in Phoenix I would love for you to stop by to see where I did find a bit of fall.

    Have a blessed day!

  3. i love that welcome mat, it really pops with the pumpkins around it!

  4. Yay for fall! I'm loving your entrance area!

    xo, Emily

  5. I liked the looked of your door as soon as I saw it in your first wreath pic. I was thinking the washed-out and rustic goes with the wreath and bricks, or at least in these pics it does. Ha, maybe you should wait til the season is over and fix it then.

  6. What a fun front door:) I'm still in the process of getting mine all decorated. And I agree with Angie, leave the door as is until fall is over as it goes well with your entrance:)

  7. Love your front door and all the pumpkins! I haven't seen any yet! Maybe this weekend! Your children are adorable! Beautiful inspiration! Thank you for sharing at Potpourri Friday!

  8. I really like your wreath; mine (the same one I've used for years) looks pretty shabby about now. Think I'll take a hint from your beauty and redo mine! Thanks for sharing and for the neat idea!

  9. Your front porch is very welcoming for all your visitors, love the grapevine wreath!

  10. What a wonderful bunch of photos and love the scripture with your children rejoicing.
Your rustic front door actually looks nice with the fall theme.
    Bless you,

  11. paint the door a barn red which will pick up the red in the bricks!

  12. Looks beautiful! I would restain your door. It would look great.

  13. I love your wreath and your cut doormat! The sun has down the same thing to our front door. My hubby has restained it once already, and it is almost time to do it again! Stopping by from TT&J.

  14. woow...this is a great post....just love the wreath :)
    and do not miss THE

    it is FUN :)

  15. Your entrance looks great, Nici! I really like your rule for filling a large pot -- thriller, spiller & filler will now be my mantra when I'm at the garden center!

I would probably paint the door a very dark color, maybe black, & then add a very good protective clear coat. A toe plate would be a nice touch, too!

  16. Beautiful and welcoming fall porch. Doesn't fall remind you of God's harvest?

  17. Your wreath is charming and I adore orange pumpkins. Visiting from Brenda's, Olive

  18. Nici, your wreath is gorgeous and it fits perfectly with your door! P.S. I'm including your fall mantle in my mantle roundup tomorrow. Had to:)
