The Best Sweet Corn on the Cob

Sweet corn on the cob has got to be one of my late summertime favorites. I used to be concerned about under or over cooking it.  I've adopted a fool proof way to cook it on the stovetop and have it be the best sweetest corn on the cob ever...provided you get good corn to begin with ;-) This year it's been a little unpredictable on which ears would be crisp and which would be starchy. But when it's's goooooood.
Here's what you do:
Shuck your ears of corn and put in a large pot.  Fill with water and add in 1-2 Tbsp. sugar.
Do not add salt, as this will toughen the corn. The sugar helps with the sweetness and tenderness of the kernels.
Put the lid on and bring to a boil.
Once it is boiling, remove the lid and set your timer for 7 minutes.  When the timer goes off, drain the corn and serve with lots of butter and salt and pepper.
That is how you cook the best sweet corn on the cob.  Easy peasy.

I'm linking up at some of these great parties and

  1. Great tips. I love corn on the cob. I'll have to try the sugar.

  2. I Love corn on the cob - one of my summer faves! I've always salted the water ... I'm definitely going to try sugar next time :)

    1. I always add sugar to mine, too, but I also add about 1 tbsp of lemon juice to it. Sooo yummy!

  3. I'd never heard of adding sugar! I'll have to try that. I'm going to have to make a run by our local produce stand for some corn today. :)
