As Time Goes By Watch Display

Hi Friends!
How is your New Year going so far?  Are you enjoying the last bit of vacations with your families? Hopefully, you are making the most of your time with them. I spent a little time today putting the finishing touches on my New Year...New Mantel that will probably go untouched until the fall. Remember, I'm a set it and forget it kind of decorator ;-).
I needed something to fill in space on the mantle and created this little As Time Goes By Watch Display. I had seen something like it on a grander scale last year at a boutique and kept it in the memory bank to duplicate.
Here's what you need: frame, watches, cardboard backing, burlap cut to size, adhesive and pins.
Start by adhering your burlap to the cardboard (I used part of a cereal box) with either spray adhesive or double sided tape. Then lay out the watches how you want them. Using the straight pins, affix the watches to the cardboard.
When you have put all the pins into the tops of the watches, flip cardboard over and secure the pins with tape.
Repeat on the bottoms of the watchbands and flip over to secure pins with tape again.
Place in frame and admire! I'm so excited to have my mantel all finished. I love that I was able to use some old watches in my decor, rather than having them just languishing in a jewelry box. And they add to my theme that reminds us to make the most of our time.
Thanks so much for taking time to visit me. I love it when you stop by.

  17. Oh I love this idea! My husband LOVES watches of any kind...esp old ones, so this would be a neat gift. I am picturing some vintage ones...wonder if they are pricey in antique stores or if I could pilfer through my grandfather's old stash? :)
