A Little Spring Planting

Wow! Did this week ever fly by! I feel like I'm running to catch up. Inspired by our trip to the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, we stopped by Lowe's on Monday to get some flowers to do a little spring planting.
Let me just say, I am always overwhelmed and confused when I go looking for flowers to put together. I know the thriller-spiller-filler motto, but I rarely do the research to see what plants will do what. So, I go based on colors. Real technical, right? Oh, and I look for the deals! I think I got all the flowers and two "coconut" shells for the trough planter and hanging basket for right around $20. I was thrilled.
Here's what we've got going on in the front. The big pot has pink Geraniums, Petunias, Vincas and some Dusty Miller. This is the closest I came to thriller-spiller-filler.  I also have a hanging basket up front with magenta and white Petunias and Dusty Miller.
In the backyard, right outside my breakfast window, we have a trough planter. I bought a new liner for it and filled it with Begonias, Celosia and Dusty Miller. It is so cheery with the bright colors.
Finally, I have this pot on the back patio that had some flowers in it from the fall. I'm not even sure what they are, but they came back this spring and I'm loving the bright red and hot pink colors. However, there were only two small plants that came back. I needed to fill in the pot with more flowers. I had a few left over from the other pots I had done. So, this is my Hodge Podge Pot.

There you have it... a little of this and a little of that. These pics were taken just after I planted the flowers, so I'm anxious to snap some more pictures when the flowers fill up the pots a little more. I just thought I'd show you what I've been up to. Today, I'll be manning our garage sale. Please pray it all sells....I do not want to haul our junk back inside! What are your plans this weekend? Are you doing any planting?
I'm linking up at some of these great parties and

  3. I just moved outside of FW, the Azle area and did not know there was a botanical garden in FW- wow so pretty and well cared for.

  5. Nici,
The weather here last week was a bit cool, breezy and raining for the most part but the next couple of days are supposed to be beautiful. Hopefully, I'll be able to get outside and get some planting done also. Love the pots and basket that you did with all the beautiful colors, they look wonderful.

  6. I love the spring and planting the planters! Everything looks so young and fresh! And the yard becomes full of color again!
    Yours are very pretty!

  7. Looks beautiful.

  8. Great choices Nici! And you did well to get all those flowers for just $20! They'll be beautiful in a few weeks. I have to hold off just a little bit longer here in Missouri...the average last frost date is April 15th, and I'm usually jumping the gun and having to cover the flowers, but we've just had some frosty nights, so I'm holding off. Can't wait to get started!

  9. Very inspiring! Wish I could spend more time in the garden these coming days! My plants miss me so much already! Got you from life in Lakeshore Drive link up.

  10. Your flowers look so pretty. I just had to replace the liner in my window box too. I love looking out and seeing colorful flowers. I saw your post about the pineapple slicer. Wow..I've got to get one of those! :)

  11. The flower pots look great! I can hardly wait until I can do the same. I will start mine indoors and haul them in and out for awhile. Official planting date in these parts is Memorial Day, and even then we've had some very late frosts!

Thank you for sharing it at to What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a lovely week!

  12. I so love this time of year and all the beautiful flowers. Yours and very pretty now and will look even better in a couple of weeks when they fill in. Love the window box and the pretty colors. Thanks for sharing at Transformed Tuesday.

  14. I really need to plant some flowers, my yard is suffering from winter neglect! I especially like your trough planter and I'm trying to figure out where I would enjoy one of those. Thanks for the inspiration!

  15. Your trough planter is identical to the four that I have. I live in Corpus Christi, TX. So far, everything I plant in mine dies. I have Draecena and some type of purplish ground cover in it now. I placed wood chips on top to help retain moisture. I think they are going to be okay, but neither plant offers any real color like your plants do. I was wondering how your plants are doing. How much light do they get, and how often do you water them. I am a newby with planters.Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

  16. Pretty choices. I like to shop for plants at Lowe's too. Happy spring......Sarah

  17. Hi Nici!

So many pretty flowers and you had a nice crew helping you out, I see!
Always good to have extra helping hands. It's so much fun to watch the pots fill
out as the warm weeks go by.
I think our pots tend to look their best right after July 4th.
Thanks so much for coming by and sharing at Favorites on the First, Nici!
