My In-Between Mantel

As the lazy days of summer are drawing to a close (we've already been buying school supplies), I felt like it was time for a change on the mantel. Gone are the reds, whites and blues. It's official title is My In-Between Mantel, because it's in-between summer and fall. Pretty clever, no?
I started by moving my clock up a few inches. It's a small change, but needed to be done. I'm not sure why I waited so long to do it. Next, I placed the "HOME" blocks in the center to build around them. These were a great find at TJMaxx late last year. I think I paid about $4.00 for them.

I knew I didn't want anything too fussy. So I pulled out my set of 3 candlesticks (that I will paint one day) and my deep maroon candles and set those off to the side.
Searching through my accessories, I found the iron basket from last year's fall side table vignette with the burlap still woven through it. This went on the other side of the blocks after tucking in a small amount of greenery. I have had this basket for many years and still love the scrolly iron work. I think it was from Southern Living at Home.
Finally, I felt like the mantel needed one more item...this chubby little iron bird. Isn't he just so cute?

That's it. A very simple In-Between Mantel. We'll see if I'm inspired to change it up for fall or not. In the meantime, I going to just enjoy the no-fuss simplicity of it.

Thanks for stopping by. I love your visits. Do you have an "in-between" decor for your mantel? Or do you just go from one holiday/season to the next? I'd love to know!

  1. My mantel only gets spruced up for fall and christmas. I hate my mantel. It's tiny and ugly. One of these days I will get around to fixing the eyesore. Actually, the fireplace is an eyesore. But I love looking at yours and pretending that it's mine!

  3. I like the idea of "in-between" decor - I usually go from red, white, and blue to autumn leaves but I'd like something for the late summer/early fall too.

  4. I love your mantle. I love the proportions of the items you chose and the little obese bird made me smile. :-)

I usually do an "in-between" decor or something where I can change up a few things to make the look consistent with the season. However, I'm looking to go in a different direction these days. I'm fascinated with the colors of India and Morocco, so we'll see what happens!

  5. Hi Nici! You're so good to update your mantel. I like the changes, especially moving the clock up. I'm not so good about updating mine...I definitely decorate it for Christmas, but after that, it's pretty much neutral until fall. Oh well. I'll just live vicariously through yours! :)

  7. Nici, your mantle looks great. Mantles are one of my very favorite places to decorate. I love what a statement each mantle makes. I'm visiting from The Dedicated House...just to your left. Hope to know you better.

  8. Right now I'm lucky if I decorate for any season. I'm in that in between stage too...in between disaster and remodeling! Your mantle looks lovely Nici. That clock is great and I love the fat little bird. Have a great week!
