Orange Sweater Pumpkin Vase ~ Yard Sale Up-Cycle

You all should know by now that I am cheap frugal when it comes to crafts...especially seasonal crafts. Helloooo, remember the Fabulously Frugal Pumpkins made from toilet paper from last year? I love to "shop" my house and dig into my craft stash to create simple projects whenever possible, sometimes even picking up items at thrift stores or yard sales to up-cycle. Today's Orange Sweater Pumpkin Vase is no exception.
I spied this pretty sweater last year at a neighborhood garage sale and purchased it with the intent of crafting with it. I took it home, washed it up and have been storing it ever since. I love the texture of the cable-knit stitching. Ready to see how I made this simple vase?

Here's what I used: yard sale sweater, scissors, small glass fish bowl/round vase from Goodwill, needle and thread.

Begin by cutting off the turtleneck.

Insert the glass bowl into the newly created tube with the finished edge around the top of the vase. Make a running stitch using same color of thread around the bottom edge of the tube to "cinch" it in to the bottom of the bowl. (You could probably glue it to the bowl for a more permanent solution, but I wanted to keep my options open.)

Make another running stitch around the top to draw the knitted tube in to the glass, eliminating any gaps.
Flip it over, and fill it up with some fall flourishes. That's it! This was the first project I made with the orange sweater and I love how it turned out. The ridges in the turtleneck were the perfect accent to make the vase look even more pumpkin-ish.
As you can see, my In Between Mantel is getting slowly tweaked into it's fall glory. I found this cute little squirrel at Hobby Lobby a couple weeks ago and he has been perched on the mantel waiting for more fall splendor ever since. I love everything about fall and have a hard time waiting to decorate for it...not that I want to rush the seasons along, but I just can't get enough of the rich colors and aromas of Autumn. Who's with me? Have you started putting fall touches around your house?
