Frosted Candy Corn Cookie Bars

Frosted Candy Corn Cookie Bars by www.posedperfection.com
Hi Friends! I just wanted to share a quick Halloween dessert for you to make for those parties you have coming up. I needed something sweet to take to small group this week. These Frosted Candy Corn Cookie Bars were a cinch to make and required minimal effort. Would you like to know how to make them?
Frosted Candy Corn Cookie Bars
These came together so quickly that I was hardly able to capture any photos of the process...that and I'm a bit spacey sometimes ;-) Anyway, they are made with the oh-so-convenient and tasty refrigerated cookie dough. I used two of the Pillsbury Sugar Cookie Dough tubes.

I simply added some food coloring to the two separate doughs, layered them, baked them, and frosted them.

2 tubes of refrigerated Sugar Cookie dough
1 can of (white) vanilla frosting
Orange gel food coloring
Yellow gel food coloring
Candy Corn for decorating

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 13x9 pan with parchment paper with a couple of inches of overhang to easily remove and cut the bars later. Remove a refrigerated dough from packaging. Place into bowl of stand mixer and beat several drops of yellow food coloring into the dough. Spread this into an even layer in the bottom of the lined pan.{I used another piece of parchment paper over the top of the dough to flatten and spread the dough easier.} Drop the other refrigerated dough into the same mixing bowl and repeat coloring process, but with the Orange food coloring, until you reach the desired color. Carefully spread the orange dough over the yellow dough. Bake in 350 degree oven for about 25-30 minutes or until center is set. (This will puff up quite a bit, but settles again after it has cooled a bit.) Allow to cool completely. Frost with white frosting, cut into squares and add a candy corn for decoration.

It took longer to write out the instructions for this treat than it did to make it, I assure you. You have to know about me already, that I love baking things from scratch. Sometimes, though, it is nice to get a little help in the way of convenience foods. Refrigerated cookie dough saved the day this time. What's your favorite "convenience" food for whipping up amazing treats?
