Drop Cloth Heart Pillows

Drop Cloth Heart Pillows
Wow! Where did the week go? We are steam rolling through the month of January. I've got February 14th on the mind these days and have been working with my ever useful drop cloth to create some fun Valentine's Drop Cloth Heart Pillows. Want to see how I made them?
Drop Cloth Heart Pillows
Here's what you'll need to make your own: drop cloth, red acrylic paint, painter's tape, alphabet rubber stamps, foam brush, round paint dauber, sewing machine and needle and thread.
Painting Drop Cloth Heart Pillows
I started by creating a heart shaped template, tracing it out on the drop cloth and cutting it out. I've always loved the look of the french linen pillows and wanted to make something similar. For the striped fabric, I taped off the stripes and using a foam brush, painted on the red stripes. The painter's tape worked like a charm for crisp straight lines.
Stamping Drop Cloth Heart Pillows
On one of the pillows, I used the tape as a guide to stamp the letters of "LOVE" across the heart. To ink up the stamps, I simply used a foam brush to apply the paint directly to the stamp and immediately press onto the fabric in the designated place. (If you do this, you'll want to clean the stamp immediately.)

I stamped another heart with big red dots. (I think this one is my favorite...polka dots are so cheery!)

When the fabric was dry, I set to making the hearts into pillows. Using my sewing machine, I sewed some of the hearts with the right sides together to hide the seam, and others, I left with a raw edge. I think I like these best ;-) After they were sewn, I stuffed them with a little bit of poly fill.

Finally, I did a little whip stitch to finish some of them off, and the ones with raw edges were finished off on the sewing machine.

This was another "no cost" project for me, as I continued using the large panel of drop cloth I purchased to make the Stenciled Drop Cloth Pillows this fall.
Drop Cloth Heart Pillows
Whether a sweet decorative touch in a vignette or a whole basket full of them, these Drop Cloth Heart Pillows are sure to plump up the love factor in your home. Imagine filling them with potpourri to give as a teacher gift or just a little something to brighten a friend's day and let them know just how special they are to you.

  22. Hi Nici Hope all is well with you. Love your little pillows, love both the striped and polka dotted, hard to choose.
Will have to find myself a nice sized heart template so I can make some of these. Think I like idea of sewing them with the edges on outside, sorta rustic? I also love making things with drop cloth, the texture is perfect, easy to work with. Happy weekend
