Nutter Butter Love Bugs

Here we are...another weekend is upon us and January is drawing to a close. I am always amazed at how fast the weeks fly by. You may be starting to get ready for Valentine's Day parties, so I thought I'd share an easy little treat for your funny Valentines...Nutter Butter Love Bugs.
Nutter Butter Love Bugs
I will admit to you that I had great intentions of making some cute Nutter Butter treats in the fall and then again over Christmas, but they just didn't happen. There were so many cute ideas out there too...reindeer, snowmen, and even polar bears were made out of Nutter Butter cookies. I just wasn't on the ball enough to get it done. So, this week I started thinking about what to do with these packages of Nutter Butters I had sitting around. As I held up the cookies and examined them, the Love Bug idea came to me.
Nutter Butter Love Bugs
To make your own Love Bugs, here's what you'll need: Nutter Butter cookies, almond bark, food coloring, sprinkles, candy eyes, mini chocolate chips and thinly sliced Craisins (for the antennae). I am the queen of "making do", so I just looked through the pantry to find the items I needed to make these little critters. You could also use pretzel twists for the "wings"...just an idea. For each Love Bug you will need 2 cookies, one for the wings and the other for the body. We dipped the "wings" in pink almond bark and decorated them with sprinkles while they were still wet.

The bodies were dipped in plain almond bark and decorated with candy eyes and thinly sliced Craisins for the antennae, as well as a mini chocolate chip for the nose.

I thought they looked a little plain, so I added some stripes with the pink almond bark.

When you have the two parts ready, simply attach them with a little more almond bark and allow to dry completely. That's all there is to it. Have fun with them...use what you have to give your Love Bugs some personality. Sure, they are a little quirky, but the kiddos will love them. Have you used Nutter Butter cookies to make holiday treats?
