Food for the Soul ~ Matthew 5:4

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." I'm not going to lie. That's a hard pill to swallow. Though they are the words or our Savior, we don't want to be blessed through suffering.
Why can't we be blessed through rejoicing? Can't we be molded into the image of Christ through good times? That's how I'd prefer it. Yet, it is through our struggles and our sorrows, reaching up to the Father, that we become more Christ-like. Waiting on Him and trusting Him with our very lives and those of our loved ones, molds our hearts into the shape of His.

A beautiful, servant-hearted woman went home to be with the Lord this weekend. She was ushered into the presence of Jesus by her children and husband singing and praying the Lord's Prayer over her. Her passing was completely unexpected by everyone, except God. Just two days earlier she was celebrating her grandson's adoption. And, for months she has been serving her youngest daughter's family as they navigate the ugliness of brain cancer. She will be greatly missed.

The untimely passing of my brother's mother-in-law has left a void that will not soon be filled. It has solidified in many of our minds and hearts just how precious and fragile life really is.

May the peace of God be with you this week and may the joy of the Lord be your strength.

  1. Beautiful photo, Nici. I am so very sorry for your loss. It's really difficult to understand how we're blessed when we mourn, however, leaning on God is the only way I've been able to handle things since losing Abby. We don't know the master plan but He does.

    Have a blessed week!

  2. Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss. May God continue to grant you and your family the strength and comfort you need now and forevermore. xoxo

  3. I am sorry for your difficult loss. But, I hope that you will be encouraged to know that the honest words of grace that you penned are a blessing to those who read them, and more importantly, honoring to the Lord. Thank you for sharing.

  4. I'm so sorry :(. It's hard to understand why some people are taken from us so soon and sometimes so suddenly. You and your family are in my thoughts Nici.

  5. I'm so sorry to read about the loss of your brother's mother-in-law. She was loved by so many. My prayers of comfort go out to you and your family during this difficult time, Nici.
