Food for the Soul ~ Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

This week is all about joy. The angels proclaimed joyfully the newborn King. (Luke 2:7-15) I cannot sing Hark! The Herald Angels Sing without tearing up. Who am I kidding? I can't sing any of the true Christmas carols without getting weepy. I am so moved that Almighty God would humble Himself to be born in such lowly estate.... to a young, fragile mother, in a manger meant for animals, in Bethlehem...just a blip on the map. Our hearts should burst with joy that the Creator of the Universe would stoop to take on human form so that He might walk in our shoes and lift us up out of the pit of despair. He wasn't just a cute, squishy baby... the story doesn't stop there. No, He came to give us new life, allowing us to be born again into His glorious Kingdom; He came to bind up our wounds and give us Hope. How can we not be joyful?!?

I do know that the holidays can be a difficult time for many because of losing loved ones, financial struggles, illness, and broken relationships. Happiness may elude you as you watch others enjoying the season. My prayer is that your heart would be drawn to Jesus, the lover of our souls and the Great Physician... that He would give you the joy that you long for and the peace that passes all understanding. If you would allow me to, I would love to come alongside you and pray for you and your needs. We serve a mighty God!

Hark! the Herald Angels Sing

Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled!
Joyful all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies;
With the angelic host proclaim
'Christ is born in Bethlehem'

Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King.

Christ by highest heaven adored
Christ the everlasting Lord
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of a virgin's womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
Hail, the incarnate deity,
Pleased as Man with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King.

Hail, the heaven-born Prince of peace!
Hail the Son of righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings.
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn king

We've really been enjoying doing the readings each week, as part of our regular Bible time in school. Here are this week's verses for you to ponder too:

I Thessalonians 3:9-13,  Romans 15:4-13, Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 1:26-38.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead. May your heart be tuned to sing His praises this week!
