Adorable Acorn Donut Treats

Sometime last year I saw these donut treats floating around the internet and I made a mental note that I would be whipping up a batch of them this year. These Adorable Acorn Donut Treats were easy peasy to put together, using many topping items from my pantry. All I needed were the donuts.

Adorable Acorn Donut Treats

There really isn't a recipe for this, as the process only requires a little bit of melting in the microwave and dipping donut holes into yummy toppings. It's a great treat for your littles to help you with and makes a fun after school snack or fall treat to take to parties.

Adorable Acorn Donut Treats

Here's what you'll need: donut holes (I got the cake-like ones at Wal-mart), microwavable candy melts, chocolate jimmies, sliced almonds, toffee bits (basically any kind of topping you want), and pretzel sticks for stems.

Adorable Acorn Donut Treats

Melt some of the chocolate in the microwave per instructions on the bag. Gently dip the top of a donut hole into the chocolate being careful not to crush the bottom of the "acorn". By the way, I didn't try this, but I wonder if using Cookie Butter or Nutella as the "glue" on the cap of these acorn treats would be good. I might have to try it next time!

Adorable Acorn Donut Treats

Dip the "acorn" into topping of choice, making sure to cover all of the melted chocolate.

Adorable Acorn Donut Treats

Break the pretzel sticks in half, unless you want really long stems. Stick the jagged end into the top of the donut hole to create the stem of the acorn cap.

Adorable Acorn Donut Treats

Allow the "acorns" to cool and the chocolate to set up before serving.

Adorable Acorn Donut Treats

Plate them up with some faux leaves and serve immediately. You don't want to run the risk of soggy pretzel stems... trust me on this.

These Adorable Acorn Donut Treats start with store-bought donut holes! A fun dessert or addition to your brunch table for the fall season!

Fun enough for the young ones in your life and pretty enough to put on a fall dessert table, these Adorable Acorn Donut Treats are such a simple little dessert to usher in the fall season. I couldn't decide which topping I liked best. Which do you think you'd prefer?

Food for the Soul ~ Hebrews 12:1

Have you ever had a dream where you were being pursued by an unsavory character and no matter how fast you tried to run it felt like your legs were made of lead? Being entangled by sin in our lives is a lot like that dream. Only in our real "awake" lives, we have the choice to throw off those things that cause us to be slow or not reach the goals we have set for ourselves. What about the race that the Lord has marked out for us? Perhaps it is different than the path we find ourselves going down right now. Perhaps we've taken detours and need to find our way back to the path marked out for us.

It's difficult to reach our maximum potential, to fulfill our purpose, when we are clinging to the wrong things...the things that lead us away from path set before us. Perhaps what is holding us back from running with perseverance is that we are trying to run someone else's race... Friends, I find myself comparing my housekeeping, my marriage,  raising my kids, and even running this blog to that of others all the time. It's as if I'm trying to run someone else's race, with 10 lb. ankle weights strapped to me. These are detrimental attitudes that I need to get rid of. I've heard it said not to compare our beginning to someone else's middle... that's good advice.

My prayer this week is that we would all look to the Lord, asking Him to put us on the path and guide us to the finish line of the race He has marked out for us individually. I pray that we will all throw off the hindrances that are holding us back from the abundant life that Jesus promises us. And I pray that we will all have the perseverance to finish strong!

What's holding you back? Do you have some attitudes that need to be thrown off so you can run faster too?

Creative Ways Link Party #21 and Features

Hello again, Friends! Has it really been a week already? I guess it has... at least that's what the calendar tells me. We are now officially in Autumn, and I couldn't be happier. The kids and I actually sat out on our back patio this morning to do our Bible time. The temperature was just perfect and my coffee hit the spot. But, I guess you didn't come here for a weather report, did you?!? You came for the Creative Ways Link Party, of course. (And I am so glad you did!)

I loved looking through the linkups from last week's party. So many fun fall posts...you are all so inspiring! Here are a few that made me take a second look (we'll start with the food, since my stomach is growling as I type this) :

These Healthy Inside Out Carrot Cake Muffins by Luv a Bargain look delicious don't they? I could go for a couple of them right now... with another cup of coffee ;-)

Simply Suzanne's is serving up these amazing Cinnamon Sugar Apple Cookies. They look almost too pretty to eat...almost.

I wish I had some flank steak on hand right now to make up some of this scrumptious Steakhouse Salad by The Kitchen Wife. The flavors all put together are pure magic!

Speaking of magic, you need to see the transformation of this Ceiling Tin Memo Board for her daughter's dorm room by Artistic Endeavors 101. I would have a hard time deciding whether to keep it's perfect patina or give it the edgy makeover it got. Either way...I love it!

Anything & Everything made up this fun Fall Burlap Wreath to decorate her front door. I really need to try this way of wrapping the ribbon...she makes it look so effortless!

Moni of Zu Haus at Home showed us her Fence Board Pumpkin and Fall Front Porch. Is that sweet potato vine not gorgeous? I love the look of that wooden pumpkin made by her hubby and how this came together!

Last but not least, I thought you all needed to see this Modern Meets Vintage Furniture Makeover by The Refined Relic. I adore this color and the way she styled this little spot in the guest room. Just beautiful!

    Pumpkin and Plaid Wreath

Hi Friends! Happy 1st day of Fall to you! I can feel the cooler weather coming...it starts in the mornings. As I am typing up this post, I have just let the dog outside for his morning romp around the yard and I can feel the crispness in air and hear the local high school band rehearsing their fight songs on the football field. Although, with Texas weather, you never know how long it will take before we actually have fall-like weather for any extended time. In anticipation of it though, I went ahead and put together a Pumpkin and Plaid Wreath.

    Pumpkin and Plaid Wreath

Truth be told, I haven't actually put it on the front door. You see, I have not yet spruced up the front porch after the blazing summer sun fried the flowers in my planters. The pots are just beckoning for some new life...perhaps some fall mums like in years past.

    Pumpkin and Plaid Wreath

I pulled out the "fall box" weeks ago when I put away the suitcases from our trip to Arizona. It was cram-packed with tired-looking fall fillers. I had to dig through to find leaves that went together. I should probably do some purging before I switch out to winter decor. Anyway, I had found this sweet wooden pumpkin at Michael's awhile back and knew that it would be the focal point of the wreath, along with some faux berries and fall leaves fillers.

    Pumpkin and Plaid Wreath

Topping it off with the plaid ribbon, this year's fall wreath can be checked off the to-do list. I need to get with the program to get it up on the front door, but then I would need to fill the flower pots...and get a new door mat...and stain the door... Whew! I need to get busy!

    Pumpkin and Plaid Wreath

Have you gotten your fall decor out yet? I hope you'll share it with us in the coming weeks at my Creative Ways Link Party. It goes live on Wednesdays at 8pm central. (shameless link party plug)

Creative Ways Link Party #20 and Features

Well, hello there! Happy you could join us for another fun Creative Ways Link Party! I'm absolutely thrilled that you've chosen to spend part of your week here at the party sharing what you've been working on and supporting your fellow bloggers! It just makes my heart go pitter pat!

So, last week, I couldn't narrow the features down to my usual six to fit into the nifty collage I like to do, so I just put up the big pictures of your features. Apparently, it was a hit, so I will keep on doing it like that. As hard as it was, I did manage to keep the features to six this week. Here's what caught my eye from last week's party (in no particular order, I might add):

Caramel Apple Oatmeal Bars by Annie's Noms
Annie has got another winner on her hands. These bars look good enough to eat for breakfast!

Jello Mold Pumpkins by Duct Tape and Denim
I fell in love with these immediately. Perhaps it's because I have some old jello molds from an estate sale that have been dying for a new life. Aren't these darling?

The temperatures dipped here in the South for a few days and it had me craving this delicious-looking soup.
Dual Greeting Welcome Mat by Bumble Bree Blog
I love a good knockoff! This door mat is just plain adorable!
Marty is always so good about perking up what she has by adding a little bling and sparkle. So pretty!

Blueberry Swirl Muffins by My Life of Travels and Adventures
Love the vibrant color of these muffins and I know my family would love them since the blueberries aren't whole.

      Gourmet Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies

Not too long ago, I needed a treat to take to a friend's house for a pool party they were having. Of course, I hadn't been to the store and was scrambling to find ingredients for a batch of cookies. Then, like a beacon in the night, I saw a chocolate cake mix in the recesses of my pantry. (cue the Hallelujah chorus) I pulled it out and got right to work on these Gourmet Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies.

      Gourmet Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies

I call them that because they sincerely tasted like those gourmet ones you might pick up at your grocer's bakery. They were easy to make and cost a fraction of the price you'd pay at the store.

Gourmet Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies Ingredients

Here's what you need: cake mix, eggs, butter, oil, vanilla, and chocolate chunks(not pictured).

      Gourmet Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies

Start by mixing together the cake mix, eggs, butter, oil and vanilla until blended together.

      Gourmet Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies

Stir in chocolate chunks and drop by teaspoonful onto baking pan with liner. Bake for 8-10 minutes and remove from oven. Allow the cookies to cool for a few minutes on the pan before removing to wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy with a tall glass of milk!

      Gourmet Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies

      Gourmet Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies

1 (18.25 oz.) chocolate cake mix (any brand will do)
      1/2 cup softened butter
      2 eggs
      2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
      1 tsp. vanilla
      1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chunks

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a baking mat or parchment paper. In large bowl combine cake mix, softened butter, eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla, mixing until completely blended. Stir in the chocolate chunks. Drop by teaspoonful onto prepared pan. Bake for 8-10 minutes and remove from oven. Allow cookies to cool for a few minutes on baking sheet before removing them to wire rack to cool completely.

So, the next time you need chocolate cookies STAT, you've got your shortcut recipe to come to the rescue! I love the convenience of cake mixes! Have you ever made cake mix cookies? What's your favorite flavor combination?

Here are some other cake mix desserts:

      Mix and Roll Sugar Cookies

      Food for the Soul ~

Hi Friends! Happy Sunday to you, or happy day...if you're reading this during the week ;-) I'm so glad you're here for a visit. The kids and I have been reading through some of Paul's letters in the New Testament, and I came across this Galatians 5:1 verse recently.

Although I am a Christ follower, I see how easily I allow myself to burdened by the "yoke of slavery" once again. This slavery amounts to unhealthy comparisons from the way my home looks, to the subjects in school I am teaching my kids, even to how my kids should behave or how "romantic" my husband should be. Friends, these comparisons are downright toxic. Of course, we should hold to a certain standard. But, should that be what we see in the glossy pages of magazines or the scrubbed and polished blog posts?  What if we held ourselves in our trouble areas to the standard that God's Word puts out for us, rather than what we are bombarded with each and everyday? Just something I've been thinking about... Are there areas of your life that you have allowed yourself to be enslaved to? Will you join me in laying them down before the Cross? Let us live with the freedom that was purchased at a very high price!

      Have a wonderful week!

Creative Ways Link Party #19 and Features

Hi Friends! Did you have a good week? We made it through our first week of school and are plowing through this full week's schedule too. I'm still trying to get a handle on balancing homeschooling, keeping up the house, and sharing any of my creative endeavors with you. It's a juggling act for sure! Thanks for inspiring me each week at this Creative Ways Link Party!

Are you ready to see this week's features? But where is that cool jigsaw collage you normally do with all the features, Nici? I'm glad you asked. Well, even if you didn't ask, I'm going to tell you ;-)

I really had a hard time choosing features this week...as usual. But this week was especially difficult. I just couldn't seem to narrow it down to 6 features like I normally do. So, today, you'll be getting the bigger pictures of all 10 features! Let me know how you like this format. I know it will make the party post longer, but maybe you like seeing the bigger pictures? Would you like the features broken out into a separate post? Let me know, I'm all ears! Anyway, without further ado, I bring you this week's Creative Ways Features...starting with the DIY projects and ending with the food...just to get you hungry ;-)

This one truly amazes me! It makes me want to cover up my real fireplace with a wall of birch rings.

Oh Deer! String Art by Curly Crafty Mom
This was the last one to the party, but certainly made an impact on me. I love the "oh deer" caption!

DIY Burlap Purple Cone Flowers by Purple Hues and Me
When I first clicked on this link, I thought they were real! Love the bright color of these!

Such a great way to use up what you have! She made this adorable piece with items she had on hand!

I love a good repurpose, and this project is one that any of us could do. She makes it look so effortless, yet the result is cottage-industrial-chic!

Rustic Rag Banner by Home Made Interest
Is this not the sweetest thing? She made it for a rustic wedding's decor, but I could see it hung up in any room of my house!

Corn Chowder by Three Kids and a Fish
This chowder has me yearning for the cooler weather...just so I can eat soup again.

Bacon Ranch Potato Salad by Love Bakes Good Cakes
This ain't your momma's potato salad! Love how this version is kicked up a notch with Ranch and bacon!

I could go for some of this cake for breakfast! Beautiful presentation and looks delicious too!

Caramel Apple Layer Cake by Say It With Cake
Last, but not least, this cake ushers us into the fall season, bringing to mind harvest festivals and cozy evenings with friends.

Can you see why I had such a hard time narrowing down to just 6 features? I've said it before and I'll say it again. I am truly honored that you all spend part of your week linking up here at the Creative Ways Link Party. Your creativity in the kitchen and around the home inspires me! Thank you for making this party such a fun place each week!

Thank you for spreading the bloggy love around too! This week had the greatest number of click throughs on the link ups! Every single post got at least two visits from this party. What a great show of support to your fellow bloggers!
