Rolled Paper Strip Heart

Hi Friends! Sorry it's been a little while since I've posted. It's been a little busy around our house the last week or so. We had my daughter's Bacon and Donut themed birthday to put on and my BFF from Arizona was in town for the weekend too. Although the weekend was a ton of fun, I'm always amazed how much a couple of extra things on the calendar will throw off my routine... not complaining... just stating a fact. Anyway, it's time to start putting together some Valentine's Day crafts! I've got a quick scrap-paper-buster craft for you today... It's a Rolled Paper Strip Heart.

Want a fun craft to use up those paper scraps? This sweet Rolled Paper Strip Heart couldn't be easier or cheaper to make!

Before I show you how I made it, I have to share this news with you. At the beginning of January, I was contacted by Ella & Annie Magazine to see if they could feature my Valentine's Day Paper Strip Heart Garland in their February issue. What?!?! A magazine wanted to use one of my crafts? Woo-hoo! Of course I said yes, which led me to doing some updated pictures of the process that were better suited for print. So, as I was working on re-shooting the photos for my . I came across my scraps of red and white paper and a rolled Paper Strip Candy Cane Ornament I had made awhile back. The wheels started spinning and I thought, "Why not make a heart just like the ornament?" So, that's just what I did.

Rolled Paper Strip Heart Supplies

Here's what you need to make them: 1/2 inch by 12 inch strips of card stock in red and white, glue, skewer, baker's twine or cording.

Rolled Paper Strip Heart Steps

To make these paper spirals, simply take a strip of paper and begin tightly wrapping around a skewer until the paper is completely wound up. Remove from skewer and allow to open up a little. Add a dab of glue to the end, press and hold for a couple of minutes until it is secure. (you could use hot glue for this also). Continue twirling strips of paper until you have 9 white and 9 red spirals.

Start gluing the rolls together in a heart shape alternating red and white. Hot glue works well here too!

An easy, frugal little Valentine craft to brighten up someone's day... So, what are your plans for Valentine's Day? Does your family celebrate it in grandiose style or is it more of a low key, just show your family and friends how much you love them type of holiday? Either way, I hope you feel loved!
