Hi Friends. Hope your weekend has been wonderful so far. We've had soccer games, baseball games and a musical audition... just your average weekend in spring ;-) All the while, we've been cheering on our kiddos, encouraging them to do their very best. Sometimes the outcomes are in their favor and what they want. Other times it goes the way of their opponents or foes. One of the most important things for them to grasp in these opportunities is that their identity is not wrapped up in their triumphs or their failures. It's a good lesson for us too.
Our identity needs to be in Christ and what He has already accomplished at the cross. Knowing that we put forth our very best effort and left the results up to the LORD is where our confidence will blossom. Whether it's battling it out in a soccer game or navigating the intricacies of relationships, our confidence cannot merely be in our efforts or our own deceptive feelings. Sometimes there is more to the story than a "win" or "loss" on the scoreboard. We don't always know what the lessons are to be learned. But, if we know that the God of the Universe loves us (enough to send His Son to die for us), then we can be confident that He is working all things together for our good and His glory.
Christ is the One that should be our HOPE, and our confidence should be in HIM. When we stand on the Rock, we will not be shaken. One of my favorite old hymns is My Hope Is Built. It speaks to this very idea...
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.
On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
Wishing you a beautiful week, my Friends!
