Hi Friends! I've been meaning to share this wreath with you for a while now. When my mom came out for a visit recently, I gave her a mission... create a new summer wreath for my front door. After raiding her own box of leftover faux flowers, picking up some others before her trip, and then making a couple of quick runs to a craft store here in town, she was able to come up with this gorgeous Bright Blooms and Bold Stripes Summer Wreath.
I've put together a fair share of wreaths in my time, but for some reason I just wasn't able to get it done this year. As much as I love having pretty floral arrangements (faux or real) around the house, I did not receive the same gift as my mother. Unlike me, she has a way with flowers... they are her passion and it shows in every arrangement she does. She came armed with a small bag of faux flowers from her stash, as well as a few new ones and began to work her magic on a blank grapevine wreath form I had here at the house. (And may I say, she was thrilled to take on this task. She absolutely loves working with flowers of all kinds, as evidenced in the many arrangements she's done at her own blog, Zu Haus at Home.)
She had seen a black and white striped table runner paired with bright flowers on this post at Finding Home's blog and felt inspired to bring those elements into a wreath. She carefully arranged the flowers onto the grapevine form, tucking in some ranunculus here and geraniums there. She then glued in some bright pink flowers for an even bigger punch of color.
When the flowers were on the wreath, we made a trip to the craft store in search of black and white ribbon. We found lots of gingham and houndstooth, but she was sure the stripes would be the best choice... remember, she was working from an inspiration picture. I didn't question her, we kept searching for stripes.
We finally found some black & white striped ribbon and got it home. After we formed a bow, we realized it just wasn't substantial enough. We ended up making another craft store run to pick up a burlap ribbon to give the striped ribbon a little more presence.
I think my mom enjoyed having a project to do that was right up her alley. It was fun for me to watch her creative process unfold before my eyes. I absolutely love the way the wreath turned out. The bright colors make me happy every time I pull up in our driveway and look to the front door. I wish I could leave it up year round... I love it that much.
