Hello, sweet friends! Hope you are enjoying the summer! It's been non-stop action in our house with VBS, baseball, playdates and lunches with friends. Never have I felt more like a taxi-driver than in this season of my life. Not that I'm complaining, for I know how quickly the time flies. Before I know it, my son will be driving himself around. Yikes! Anyway, in the midst of all the craziness, I have found it essential to tap into the creative side of my brain. This week, that exercise included making up this USA Flag Picture Tray and a little time indulging in my new favorite afternoon pick-me-up, Folgers® Iced Café™!
A couple of years ago I purchased a picture of a pheasant at a garage sale. I loved the size of the frame and envisioned turning it into a tray of some sort. Well, the time had come to make that happen. I started looking around the house for some background papers and the idea for this USA Flag Picture Tray came to be.
Here's what I used: an old picture, sand paper, white spray paint, wrapping paper and some scrapbook paper.
I started by removing the backing of the picture.
Next I sanded and wiped down the frame, as well as cleaned up the glass. It was pretty dusty, as you can see!
The next step was painting the frame white. I just happened to have enough white spray paint to get the job done. Yay for not having to drop everything to go to the store to finish up a project!
Finally, I cut the papers to size, attached them to the pheasant picture and reassembled the frame.
At first I tried it without the dark blue border, but found that I needed a bit more contrast. I thought about adding some handles, but so far, I haven't found any that I like for this particular tray.
And, I kinda like the versatility of being able to use it as a picture too!
I do love how it turned out, so naturally, I decided to celebrate with a little Folgers® Iced Café™ Latte and some Chocolate Raspberry Oatmeal Cookies (recipe coming next week). After making it through this creative undertaking after my crafting drought, a little caffeine refreshment was in order!
This drink is the perfect way to perk up your afternoons.. or mornings, for that matter. The best part? You don't have to leave your house to indulge in a decadent coffee drink... unless you want to... and then these are portable! These new coffee concentrates, in their portable package, are great for home, work or on-the-go! Each bottle contains 100% coffee extract, sweetener and flavor enhancers. All you need is the milk and ice! Stick one of the bottles in your purse, and you are ready whenever the mood strikes you! By the way, I have gone through the process of cold-brewing some coffee for the week to make iced coffee, but this way is much easier!
Just choose your favorite flavor... Original Latte, Hazelnut Latte, Vanilla Latte and Caramel Macchiato. Pour a glass of milk, put in a couple of squeezes of your Folgers® Iced Café™ concentrate, stir and add some ice. Easy... and soooo delicious!
My husband came in from mowing the lawn and I offered him a sip of my drink. Only, he didn't just take a sip... he drank the whole thing! He thought it tasted just as good as the expensive ones we've bought in the glass bottles before. At $4.99 per squeeze bottle, indulging in these coffee drinks won't break the bank, especially if you can get up to 6 drinks out of one!
To make your Summer Fridays even cooler, Folgers® is giving away some gift baskets including these Iced Café™concentrates every Friday! For details on their #FolgersFridays and to find out where you can purchase Folgers® Iced Café™Coffee Drink Concentrates for yourself, visit their website or follow Folgers® on Facebook or Twitter.
I love that I don't need a bunch of fancy equipment or ingredients to serve up these delicious drinks! However, it does does help to serve them on a cute tray ;-). Are you an iced coffee fan? Are you a purist or do you like to flavor it up?
