Food for the Soul ~ Proverbs 15:13

Hi Friends!
I hope you are enjoying your day! I'm headed out to cheer on my son in his first baseball tournament of the season, but wanted to leave you with a fun reminder for the day...

"A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit." Proverbs 15:13

We cashed in on a family Christmas gift last night and went to see Tim Hawkins, the Christian comedian. Oh, my goodness... I laughed so hard I cried several times during the show. He has a way with taking the ordinary things of life and spinning them into hilarity. God has truly gifted him.

I'm so thankful the Lord gave us the ability to laugh... the smile that occurs in the process has a way of trickling down into our hearts and bringing out the joy that only the Lord can give.

Praying you have a day full of reasons to smile and laugh!

Food for the Soul ~ Psalm 130:5

Waiting... it is never an easy thing. Whether it's waiting for the Lord to bring the right person into our life, or waiting in line, or waiting to hear a diagnosis, it is always a test of the will. We try to teach our kids to wait for the things they want, and it is a great lesson. For it will one day give them peace as they look forward to the answers they await. We are people of action, for the most part. We want it now. Instant gratification. However, God's Word shows us that there is purpose in the waiting. Psalm 130:5 says, "I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope."

I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. Psalm 130:5

When we are forced to tarry, our hope is found not in thing itself that we are waiting for, but in the LORD Himself. In our waiting, a deeper dependence on the LORD occurs. Like Abraham who waited longer than most people even live to become a father to Isaac, we can trust that the God of the universe has our situation well under control. When Sarah finally did have Isaac, Abraham was asked to do the unthinkable... to offer up Isaac as a sacrifice to God. Because of the years of waiting, Abraham's faith and hope in the LORD grew even stronger. So much so, that when the time came for Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, he had full confidence that the LORD would provide. His hope was no longer in his long-awaited son, but in the LORD God Himself. His faith was credited to him as righteousness. We, too, can look to the LORD as our prize, not the temporary fulfillment of whatever it is we await.

What are you waiting for this week? I pray that you will find the peace that passes understanding in the process.

Creative Ways Link Party #94 and Features

Well, hello there! Hope your week is off to a great start! I feel like I'm behind, since we took off school on Monday for President's Day. The kids and I drove across the Metroplex to see one of my oldest friends and her kiddos. With busy schedules and the distance, we only get to see each other a few times a year. This visit was especially fun since I got to see her parents also. (They were my 2nd parents during the teen years). They popped over for a few minutes, so we were able to catch up and give out some long overdue hugs. It was such a sweet reunion. Anyway, that's been the highlight of my week so far... besides this party, of course ;-) Speaking of parties, are you ready to share what you've been working on here at the Creative Ways Link Party? I'm sure ready to see what you have been up to!

Here were some of my favorite posts from the last party:

First of all, some of you may not know this, but arranging flowers is not in my skill set. I struggle with it every time I get fresh flowers. I did not receive this gene from my mother, who is a beautiful novice florist. However, Boxwood Avenue shared some great tips on How to Turn Grocery Store Flowers into Beautiful Arrangements. I think I will buy myself some flowers this week to try these pointers!

These Grilled Blackened Chicken Tacos from All She Cooks look like a delicious weeknight dinner, especially when you are rushed for time.

Simply Beautiful by Angela shared this Dark Hallway Makeover on a Budget. It really is a beautiful transformation! I can't wait to see how she did the board and batten.

These Chipotle Jicama Fries by Morsels of Life are making my mouth water! I need to try these, for sure!

I adore this French Knot Wreath Pillow that Home to Cottage shared in her tutorial. I've never mastered the French Knot, but I intend to try it again!

The Country Chic Cottage delighted us with this Applesauce Banana Cake Recipe. Looks like the perfect snack, dessert, or breakfast ;-)

I need some of these DIY Farmhouse Tea Towels by Making It In The Mountains in my life. They are so pretty... and functional!

Food for the Soul ~ Matthew 5:43-45

Happy Sunday and Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you're able to spend today with those you love most. When looking for a verse about 'love' to share with y'all today, I came across this one from Matthew 5:43-45,

"You have heard it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your father who is in heaven. For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust."

This verse really resonated with me, on both a deeply personal level, as well as on a national level. Loving those who agree with us is relatively easy. Loving those who harbor anger towards us and those who despise everything we stand for are other matters all together. In fact, it is impossible... without God. We know, however, that nothing is impossible so long as our hearts are aligned with His.

When we know Him well and love Him wholeheartedly, He gives us the ability to love others... even those we may not agree with. On this day of LOVE,  I hope you know how very much you are loved by the Creator of this beautiful sunset, the Author of our faith, the Lord of Heaven and earth. You are precious to Him and He adores you!
